Burj Khalifa, The TALLEST building in the WORLD

As the tallest building in the world opened to great fanfair in Dubai yesterday, the struggling emirate was well aware that it owed a big thank you to its oil rich neighbour. The thanks came in the form of a naming ceremony, Dubai's ruler renamed the previously-known Burj Dubai the Burj Khalifa. Just last month the tower's namesake and leader of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahayan, bailed out indebted Dubai to the tune of $10bn - ?6.13bn. The building boasts the world's first Armani hotel on the bottom floors, it also houses 900 Dubai residences, 37 floors of office space, a fine dining restaurant and an observation deck.

The structure, whose final height was revealed yesterday to be 828m, is far taller than the previous record holder, Taipei 101 and brings records galore to the UAE. As well as being the tallest building in the world, it also has the most stories and highest occupied floor of any building in the world, and ranks as the world's tallest structure. Visitors can look out from the highest observation deck in the world on the 124th floor. The tower's glass and steel exterior would apparently cover 17 football fields if laid out flat and will take some poor workers between six and eight weeks to clean. The concrete used in the core of the building could build a pavement 1,283 miles long and the cooling system produces enough condensation to fill 20 Olympic swimming pools a year. It's a good thing those eco-conscious developers will be using the waste to water the grounds.

Work on the Burj Dubai began in 2004 and continued rapidly. At times, new floors were being added almost every three days, reflecting Dubai's raging push to reshape itself over a few years from a small-time desert outpost into a cosmopolitan urban giant packed with skyscrapers. By January 2007, thousands of laborers, many of them brought in on temporary contracts from India, had completed 100 stories. To ensure the tower doesn't twist or break during bad weather, it is built in a Y-shape, with three 'wings' evenly distributing the building's weight.

‘Bluetooth 3.0 officially launched.’

The latest version of Bluetooth, Bluetooth 3.0 + HS, was officially launched during a recent meeting among the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG).

Based off of the 802.11 protocol, Bluetooth 3.0 will increase transfer speeds from 3Mbps up to an impressive 23Mbps, according to Bluetooth supporters. The technology is based on Wi-Fi standards and offers power-saving benefits that weren’t available with Bluetooth 2.1.

“Utilizing the 802.11 radio was a natural choice as it provides efficiencies for both our members and consumers — members get more function out of the two radios they are already including in devices, and consumers with Bluetooth 3.0 HS products will get faster exchange of information without changing how they connect,” Bluetooth SIG director Michael Foley said in a statement. “We are excited to expand the possibilities of the PAN.”

During the announcement, Bluetooth 3.0 is expected to be used to help transfer large amounts of information between PCs and media devices, with wireless syncing available. Bluetooth has mainly been used by mobile phones, but the faster speeds should lead to Bluetooth adoption with more camcorders, TVs, Blu-ray players, cameras, and other consumer devices.

Even though Bluetooth 3.0 is out and about, many manufacturers are just now catching up to the Bluetooth 2.0 standard. Furthermore, no Bluetooth 3.0 devices are available on the consumer at the moment, and won’t begin shipping until Q3 this year, if that early.

Tech journalists and analysts long-anticipated the launch of Bluetooth 3.0, and have high expectations of what it will be able to do in the future. Users will be able to transfer music library, DVDs, and photos all in a matter of seconds, a Bluetooth SIG statement said last week.

Foley said there could be a handful of Bluetooth 3.0 devices in time for the 2009 holiday shopping, but officials don’t expect a significant amount of products until next year.

Four new venues announced for IPL's third season - One of them is Nagpur.

Four new venues have been introduced for the third edition of the IPL, which will run from March 12 to April 25 next year. The 60-game tournament will feature a third-place playoff between the losing semi-finalists as a qualifier for the Champions League and could also see the induction of ICL players. The IPL governing council, which met in Mumbai on Tuesday, has also decided to include two new teams from the fourth edition in 2011.

Nagpur, Visakhapatnam, Ahmedabad and Dharamsala are the new venues, hosting some games of the Mumbai Indians, Deccan Chargers, Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab, respectively. Hyderabad will stage the opening fixture between defending champions Deccan Chargers and Kolkata Knight Riders, while both semi-finals will be held in Bangalore. The venue of the final hasn't been fixed but the season will end five days before the World Twenty20 opens in West Indies.

Today's decisions brought good news for the former ICL players, though their participation is subject to the BCCI's formal approval. They will now join the gravy train, though their payout could be considerably less than many of their peers. They will be valued in two categories; Indian domestic players will be paid Rs 8-20 lakh ($18,000-45,000) while international players, both Indian and foreign, will be made available through auction.

The IPL will also make use of the services of the ICC's Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) for the third season. The BCCI had agreed to draft in ACSU for the upcoming Champions League in October as well, at the ICC board's annual conference in London last month.

Another development for the new season was the reduction in the 'strategic timeout' from seven-and-a-half minutes to five. The timeout - which will be mandatory for both sides - will be split into two breaks of equal length with the bowling team opting for it between overs 6-10, and the batting team allowed to choose between overs 11-16.

At his press conference following the meeting, IPL commissioner Lalit Modi also outlined plans for Season 4 onwards. Two franchises will be added to the league, through an auction to be held next January, and the tournament will expand from 60 games to 94. The player auction for the fourth season, with a new salary cap, will be held in the summer of 2010 to allow squads to integrate. The 'icon player' concept will be done away with but there will be no change in the number of international players - ten in the squad and four on the field.

The second season was held in South Africa in April-May this year after the Indian government declined to provide security because the tournament overlapped with general elections in the country.

What are the symptoms?

Swine flu symptoms are similar to the symptoms of regular flu and include fever of over 100.4°F, fatigue, lack of appetite, and cold. Some people with swine flu have also reported runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. Nearly everyone with flu has at least two of these symptoms.

So, how do you know if you have flu or just cold?
There is one clue: when you have the flu, you feel flu symptoms sooner than you would cold symptoms, and they come on with much greater intensity. With the flu, you may feel very weak and fatigued for up to 2 or 3 weeks. You'll have muscle aches and periods of chills and sweats as fever comes and goes. You may also have a stuffy or runny nose, headache, and sore throat.

Can I compare flu symptoms with cold symptoms?
Yes. The following chart can help you compare flu symptoms with cold symptoms. Use it to lean the differences and similarities between flu and cold symptoms. Then, if you get flu symptoms, call your doctor and ask about an antiviral drug.

You cannot confirm if you have swine flu just based on your symptoms. Like seasonal flu, pandemic swine flu can cause neurologic symptoms in children. These events are rare, but, as cases associated with seasonal flu have shown, they can be very severe and often fatal.

Doctors may offer a rapid flu test, but what you need to understand is a negative result doesn't necessarily mean you don't have the flu. Only lab tests can definitively show whether you've got swine flu. State health departments can do these tests.

Who is at risk?

Those who are more at risk from becoming seriously ill with swine flu are people with:

chronic (long-term) lung disease, including people who have had drug treatment for their asthma within the past three years,
chronic heart disease,
chronic kidney disease,
chronic liver disease,
chronic neurological disease (neurological disorders include motor neurone disease, Parkinson's disease and multiple sclerosis),
suppressed immune systems (whether caused by disease or treatment),
diabetes,
pregnant women,
people aged 65 or older, and
young children under five.

How does it spread?

The new swine flu virus is highly contagious, that is it spreads from person to person. The virus is spread through the droplets that come out of the nose or mouth when someone coughs or sneezes. If someone coughs or sneezes and they do not cover it, those droplets can spread about one metre (3ft). If you are very nearby you might breathe them in.

Or, if someone coughs or sneezes into their hand, those droplets and the virus within them are easily transferred to surfaces that the person touches, such as door handles, hand rails, telephones and keyboards. If you touch these surfaces and touch your face, the virus can enter your system, and you can become infected.

Can it be prevented?

Influenza antiviral drugs also can be used to prevent influenza when they are given to a person who is not ill, but who has been or may be near a person with swine influenza. When used to prevent the flu, antiviral drugs are about 70% to 90% effective. When used for prevention, the number of days that they should be used will vary depending on a person’s particular situation.

Follow this general procedure to reduce the risk of catching or spreading the virus, you should:

Cover your mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing, using a tissue
Throw the tissue away quickly and carefully
Wash your hands regularly with soap and water
Clean hard surfaces (like door handles and remote controls) frequently with a normal cleaning product
Keep away from others as much as possible. This is to keep from making others sick. Do not go to work or school while ill
Stay home for at least 24 hours after fever is gone, except to seek medical care or for other necessities. (Fever should be gone without the use of a fever-reducing medicine.)
Drink clear fluids (such as water, broth, sports drinks, electrolyte beverages for infants) to keep from being dehydrated
Wear a facemask – if available and tolerable – when sharing common spaces with other household members to help prevent spreading the virus to others.

Will it help to wear a mask?

Information on the effectiveness of facemasks and respirators for decreasing the risk of influenza infection in community settings is extremely limited. So, it is difficult to assess their potential effectiveness in decreasing the risk of Swine Flu virus transmission in these settings. However, a well-fitted, FDA-approved mask together with other preventive measures MAY reduce the risk of contracting the flu. Those who are sick or caring for someone who is ill should consider using a mask or respirator if leaving the house becomes necessary.

What precautions should one take at home?

Two things - soap and water can reduce the chance of infection by 30 per cent. All you need to do is keep washing your hand with soap and water frequently. Wash hands frequently with soap and water or use alcohol-based hand cleaner when soap and water are not available. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth

Eat healthy: Proteins are essential to help your body maintain and build strength. Lean meat, poultry, fish, legumes, dairy, eggs, and nuts and seeds are good sources of protein.

The Food and Drug Administration recommends that adults eat 50 grams of protein per day. Pregnant and nursing women need more. By eating foods high in protein, we also get the benefit of other healing nutrients such as vitamins B6 and B12, both of which contribute to a healthy immune system.

Vitamin B6 is widely available in foods, including protein foods such as turkey and beans as well as potatoes, spinach, and enriched cereal grains. Proteins such as meats, milk, and fish also contain vitamin B12, a powerful immune booster.

Minerals such as selenium and zinc work to keep the immune system strong. These minerals are found in protein rich foods such as beans, nuts, meat, and poultry.

Exercise: Regular exercise may help prevent the flu. According to recent findings, when moderate exercise is repeated on a near daily basis, there is a cumulative immune-enhancing effect. That is, your strong immune system can fight flu better. When you exercise, your white blood cells -- the blood cells that fight infections in the body -- travel through your body more quickly, fighting bacteria and viruses (such as flu) more efficiently. To maintain good health, experts recommend at least 30 minutes of aerobic activity such as walking, swimming, biking, or running each day.

What precautions should one take at schools?

Avoid close contact with people who are sick
People who are sick with an influenza-like illness should stay home and keep away from others as much as possible, including avoiding travel, for at least 24 hours after fever is gone except to get medical care or for other necessities. Is it safe to travel?

Avoid traveling unnecessarily. However, if you must travel, check how the country you're going to handles swine flu. Although, the WHO doesn't recommend travel restrictions, many countries have set up their own H1N1 policies, and some travelers have been screened or quarantined in other countries because of swine flu concerns.

It is 4 times as many as the new Westfield London shopping centre. Twice delayed, Dubai Mall opened on November 4, 2008, with about 600 retailers, marking the world's largest-ever mall opening in retail history. However it is not the largest in gross leaseable space, and is surpassed in that category by several malls including the South China Mall, Golden Resources Mall, SM City North Edsa, and SM Mall of Asia.
Over 12 million sq ft (equivalent in size to more than 50 soccer pitches), the Dubai Mall has a total internal floor area of 5.9 million square feet (55 ha) and leasable space of 3.77 million square feet (35 ha), about same as West Edmonton Mall.
It surpasses the previously largest mall in the Middle East City Stars, which is located in Cairo, Egypt. With a gross area of over 8 million sq feet (74 ha), City Stars was the largest mall in the Middle East since 2003.

The Dubai Mall has 10–15 distinct 'malls-within- a-mall', totaling 9 million ft² (84 ha) of shopping retail space (comprising of a total of 1200 stores, when fully operational) . Featured attractions include: the world's largest Gold Souk with 220 retailers; the 850,000 sq ft (79,000 m2) Fashion Catwalk atrium; Fashion Island (Avenue), with 70 stores dedicated to haute couture; the Middle East's first Galeries Lafayette department store; Oasis Fountain Waterfall; and WaterFront Atrium. Other attractions include the region's first SEGA indoor theme park covering 76,000 sq ft (7,100 m2); KidZania, a 80,000 sq ft (7,400 m2) children's 'edu-tainment' centre; a 22-screen Cineplex, the largest in Dubai; and The Grove, an indoor-outdoor streetscape with fully retractable roof. It also features over 160 food and beverage options, 220 gold & jewelry outlets; a supermarket and an organic food mart. Among the shops is British toy store Hamley's, which opened a 32,000-square foot (3,000 m²) store that includes a replica of London's Regent Street, with the franchise owned by Retail Arabia. Many shops, however, remained shuttered for a long while to come. Bloomingdales might open by 2010 and Galeries Lafayette, by February, 2009. It also has a 250-room luxury hotel, 22 cinema screens plus 120 restaurants and cafes. The Mall has over 14,000 parking spaces across 3 car parks, with valet services and a car locator ticketing system.

The Mall's Dubai Aquarium and Discovery Centre, developed and operated by Oceanis Australia Group, officially earned the Guinness World Record for the world's "Largest Acrylic Panel" (32.88 m wide × 8.3 m high × 750 mm thick and weighing 245,614 kg). The acrylic viewing panel is larger than Japan's Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium (22.5 m wide × 8.2 m high and 600 mm thick). Its 750 mm thick acrylic viewing panel can withstand pressure of 10 million litres of water used in the aquarium, but its transparency gives visitors clear views of over 33,000 marine animals on display. The Mall adopted an International Standard of Ethics and Animal Welfare Policy in its development and operation.

The Mall's Dubai Ice Rink multi-purpose venue, uses refrigeration plant technology by developing 1.5 inches (38 mm) of ice bed, almost 3 times the thickness of an NHL ice rink for Olympic-sized attraction. Dubai Ice Rink can host a capacity of up to 2,000 guests, when converted into a multi-functional hall with world-class multimedia system including a 20 m × 10 m LED screen. Operations Manager, Richard Rowlands, a 7 years Welsh figure skating pairs, described it: "Dubai Ice Rink in itself is an exciting facility, bringing the first-ever Olympic-sized ice rink to Dubai. A top-class facility offering the best of, including over 1,800 pairs of skates imported from a leading manufacturer in Italy to fit children and adults of all ages and sizes, the Dubai Ice Rink will host themed nights, Learn-to-Skate programmes, figure skating lessons and hockey matches.The advanced technology used at the Dubai Ice Rink ensures that the consistency of the ice-bed is maintained at all times. By incorporating the refrigerator technology of pushing in glycol through a network of pipes, and monitoring the cooling over a period of five to six days, the 38 mm ice-bed is tailored to withstand multiple activities in a safe environment."

The mall was built by a joint venture of Dutco Balfour Beatty, Al Ghandi/CCC[ and Turner Construction[ citation needed] for Emaar Properties and was scheduled to be completed in 2006, claiming to be the size of 50 "international- sized football (soccer) pitches". Most of the workers used in construction of the mall were Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi & Sri Lankan guest workers. The internal mobile phone coverage for Dubai Mall was commissioned, integrated and carried out by Motorola Dubai for Etisalat & DU

The Dubai Mall contains more than 1,200 shops and is anchored by Galeries Lafayette, Debenhams, Bloomingdale's, and Marks & Spencer.

Microsoft announces XP Mode RC for Windows 7

Three months after first introducing Windows 7?s virtual XP Mode, Microsoft has announced the availability of its release candidate (RC) version. As previously reported, this is an optional add-on for Windows 7 Professional or higher, and is aimed at helping small to medium-size businesses upgrade to Windows 7 by giving them a virtual Windows XP environment capable of running any legacy applications they may rely on.

This is only intended as a ?last mile? of compatibility for business users, according to Microsoft, which has clarified that most XP applications will run natively on Windows 7. The software requires an additional 1GB of RAM, 15GB of available disk space, and a processor capable of hardware virtualization with AMD-V or Intel VT.

Refinements in the Windows XP Mode release candidate include new USB and drive sharing support options along with a user tutorial aimed at the small and midsize business market. It also now allows users to view recently opened Windows XP applications in the Windows 7 Jump Menu and open them from the task bar. The near-completed software is be available for public testing now and should be released in its final form at the time of the Windows 7 launch on October 22.

Microsoft Bing Gains Another Market Share Point

Bing?s share of the U.S. search market grew another percentage point in July, bringing its total to 9.41 percent according to data from StatCounter. At the same time Google?s share slipped to 77.54 percent, down by nearly a point, while Yahoo saw a slight decline from 11.04 to 10.95. Taking into account the ten-year deal between Microsoft and Yahoo, however, the two come out with 20.36 percent.

Sure, Google remains the king of search with more than three-quarters of the market but Bing?s growth since its makeover is certainly nothing to sneeze at. In just two months, the site has grown roughly as much percentage points and in partnering with Yahoo the two have a better chance of slowly chipping away Google?s search and online advertising numbers.

Under the agreement, Microsoft?s Bing search engine would now be the exclusive search provider for Yahoo?s sites, while in exchange the latter will sell both its own and Microsoft?s search ads using the AdCenter platform. Whether or not they can make any significant dent in Google's dominance remains to be seen, but at least the trend seems positive so far.

When your troubleshooting a computer it is always nice to have a systems diagnostic tool at the ready. Today we take a look at ESET’s SysInspector, which is an extremely detailed diagnostic tool for Windows that helps technicians diagnose problems.

There is no installation needed with SysInspector as it is a single file executable that you can run from a flash drive if you want. You will need to scroll all the way to the bottom of the EULA and agree to begin using it.

After clicking I Agree it will start to scan your system.

SysInspector generates a detailed real-time snapshot of your current system. In fact this will tell you what processes are running behind svchost.exe which is always handy.

It captures details such as running processes, registry content, startup items, network connections and a lot more. It has the ability to discover rootkits in the Master Boot Record, registry, services, and even drivers. It also includes a handy search feature that will allow you to quickly find specific information.

The menu bar on the left lets you access history, change views, access different features, compare logs, and search online for different data found.

You have the option to save the logs which can come in handy when keeping track of multiple computers.

SysInspector is bundled with NOD32 Antivirus and Smart Security version 4. It is a tool to aimed to help aid IT and Tech Support teams diagnose issues with the computer but can also be used by experienced computer geeks. It can also be downloaded from their site as a free stand alone app for XP , Vista and Windows 7 32 & 64 bit versions.

Backup Different Browsers Easily with FavBackup

Prefer to have a single program that can backup your profile and settings for multiple types of browsers instead of using many different programs? Now you can simplify the backup and restore process with FavBackup.

Supported Browsers: Internet Explorer (6 – 8), Mozilla Firefox (2 – 3.5), Opera (9), Safari (3 – 4), Google Chrome (1 – 3)

Installation & Setup

There is no installation required for FavBackup, simply place the exe file in a folder/location of your choice and create a shortcut for it. For our example, we placed the exe file in a folder named “FavBackup” in Program Files.

Note: You will need to create a folder to place the backup files in (they are saved as multiple separate files).

To begin backing up a browser, simply click the shortcut that you created to begin the process…

Backing Up a Browser Profile

Here is the first of the three windows that you will go through while backing up a browser’s profile.

Choose the type of “Backup” option that best suits your needs and select the browser that you would like to do the backup for. Notice that there is also a “Convert” option available. Click “Next”.

Note: For our example, we chose to backup Google Chrome on Vista SP2 and created a folder on the Desktop named “Chrome” to place the backup files in.

In the second window, select or deselect the items that you would like to have backed up and browse for the Backup Folder that you have created. Click “Next”.

Note: All items are selected by default.

In the third window, all of the items that were selected in the second window will display a Green Checkmark beside them if backup of that item was successful. Click “Finish”.

And a quick look inside our Chrome Folder shows all of the items that were backed up.

Restoring a Browser Profile

As with the backup process, there are three windows that you will go through while restoring a browser’s profile.

Choose the type of “Restore” option that best suits your needs and select the browser that you would like to restore to. Click “Next”.

Note: To keep things interesting for our example, we took the profile backup of Google Chrome on Vista SP2 and restored it to a plain unmodified install of Google Chrome on Windows 7.

In the second window, select or deselect the items that you would like to have restored and locate your backup files. Click “Next”.

Note: As in the backup process, all items are selected by default.

In the third window, all of the items that were selected in the second window will display a Green Checkmark beside them if that item was successfully restored. Click “Finish”.

That is all there is to it!

And here is our Windows 7 installation of Google Chrome after the profile restoration. Everything restored perfectly including all six extensions that our Vista SP2 install of Google Chrome has. Excellent!

Note: The Restore Windows for the other browsers are identical to their Backup Window versions (pictured above).

Conclusion

FavBackup is an extremely easy to use profile backup software that gets the job done without any hassle. It was a joy to use in our example and is definitely a recommended “must install” piece of software.

Known Issues

*Note: Quoted directly from the FavBackup Homepage.

General: Regular (non safe) backup/restore will save default/first profile only. If you have multiple same browser installations, please use safe backup instead.
General: Restoring backups directly from DVD/CD drive can give error. Copy backup to your PC first..
Internet Explorer: Won’t restore some of the settings.
Opera: Moving backups from XP to Vista/7 will require manual changes, see here.

iPhone can be hacked with an SMS message

In a week were it was revealed that the iPhone's encryption was about as useful as a chocolate teapot, security experts have worked out a way of cracking the Jesus phone by using an SMS message.

The news makes a mockery of Apple's claims that its software has superior security to anyone else.According to CNET an attacker could exploit the hole to make calls, steal data, send text messages, and do basically anything that the user does with their iPhone. The attack is enabled by a serious memory corruption bug in the way the iPhone handles SMS messages. There is no patch, despite the fact that Apple was notified of the problem about six weeks ago.

To be fair Android-based phones were found to be similarly susceptible to an SMS attack, but attacker could temporarily knock the phone off the network but not take control. Google patched the hole in a week and does not tell its users that it is invulnerable to attack either.

Previous iPhone attacks required an attacker to lure the iPhone user to visit a malicious Web site or open a malicious file, but this attack requires no effort on the part of the user and requires only that an attacker have the victim's phone number.

Once inside a victim's phone, the attacker could then send an SMS to anyone in the victim's address book and spread the attack from phone to phone.

A lot of Windows users held out on a Vista upgrade hoping for a saving grace to come from Redmond and, to many, Windows 7 is precisely that. The upcoming release may end up being worth the wait, but unfortunately for anyone who has opted to stick with XP, Microsoft won't be allowing any direct upgrade paths. In the eyes of some analysts, this is perhaps the biggest mistake Microsoft will have made with the Windows 7 launch, and I'm inclined to agree.

The article goes into the premise behind Microsoft's decision. It isn't their desire to shut out XP users. The Windows 7 installer still supports automatic dual-boot installations, which would allow someone with an existing XP install to have 7 sit side-by-side while they transition. Forget about keeping your library of installed applications, however, as those will all have to be installed fresh. This differs from the launch of XP, where Windows 98 and Windows 2000 users both enjoyed the ability to do upgrade installs.

As time goes on, and people get machines pre-installed with Windows 7, the problem will become less important. Still, there's room for criticism here ? Microsoft has a lot of PR to make up for due to the perceived disadvantages Vista had and the dismal initial launch. Though Redmond has addressed most of the criticism, they still have a lot of unhappy customers, and as the article brings out they should seek to reach out to as many people as possible. It does seem in this instance that Microsoft is neglecting a huge pool of users. What's your take ? is Microsoft making a mistake in not allowing upgrades from XP?

However, while the Page?s administrator was updating the Page at least daily through July 17, there hasn?t been an update in nearly 10 days. While Facebook Pages are effective tools for businesses and celebrities to reach their audiences, what happens when celebrities pass away? How long into the future will the administrators and fans of the Michael Jackson Page still be posting content?

Before Jackson?s death, the singer had about 800,000 fans on Facebook, while Barack Obama?s Page had the most Facebook fans at 6.4 million. Today, Jackson?s Page is the first in history to cross 10 million, while Obama?s Page still has the second most at nearly 6.5 million, followed by Vin Diesel and Megan Fox, according to PageData.

Microsoft Bing To Power Yahoo!

After a failed merger attempt last year and following months of back and forth negotiations, Microsoft and Yahoo have officially announced a 10-year search deal to better compete with leader Google. Under the agreement, Microsoft?s Bing search engine would now be the exclusive search provider for Yahoo?s sites and in exchange the latter will sell both its own and Microsoft?s search ads using the AdCenter platform.

Yahoo will still own the user experience on its properties and should get 88 percent of search revenue created by its sites during the first five years. For its part, Microsoft will guarantee a certain level of search revenue for 18 months. Although no upfront payment will be made, Yahoo estimates the agreement will provide about $500 million in annual operating income and capital expenditure savings of about $200 million after the first two years. In addition, the deal is expected to generate annual operating cash flow of about $275 million.

The road to a deal has been a long one and full implementation is still not expected to occur until at least 24 months following regulatory approval. Together the companies would have nearly 30 percent of the search market compared with Google?s estimated 60 percent share.

Subscribers will be able to experience 1 Mbps surfing speeds from Airtel at Rs. 1,699 per month, which is Rs. 100 more than current 512 Kbps. The 512Kbps speed plan will now cost Rs. 1,099, which is Rs. 200 more than current 256 Kbps.

For Rs. 1,699, subscribers will be offered 1Mbps surfing speeds, along with a free VAS bundle from Airtel worth up to Rs. 500 every month. This bundle would include gaming on Games on Demand, Anti-Virus software PC Secure, Airtel Speed on Demand, and Online Desktop.

While for Rs.1,099 per month, subscribers will get to experience 512 Kbps broadband speeds along with Rs. 100 worth of free call value per month.
